Great Timing

Mar 10, 2017

The last month has been a whirlwind of activity for me. I arrived here in time to sit in on meetings reviewing the ministries ofNamikango for the past year. This was really great timing as it allowed me to become more familiar with the work being done by Namikango. Sitting in on these meetings also helped me get to know the various staff here and what their roles are.

On a more personal note, I was living at the guesthouse atNamikango while searching for a vehicle and house. I was prepared for a lengthy search, as these two items are usually in short supply. However, around the middle of February, two of my prayers were answered – on the same day! I purchased a vehicle and signed a lease on a house the same day. This was less than a month into the search process. The house in Zomba is very close to my teammates, which is a real blessing and another answer to prayer.

I’m adjusting to life in Zomba, which is (thankfully) a bit slower than the hustle of Nairobi. It is so green here from all the rainfall we have received in the last month or so, and I can not stop staring in wonder at the massive mountains dotting the landscape. This is a truly beautiful corner of the world.

My Chichewa is still very rough, but I am making slow progress! Learning a language is also learning to laugh at oneself, but the staff at Namikango have been gracious teachers, and I am confident they will continue to guide me asI learn more about the language and culture.
