On a Spiritual Journey

Jul 20, 2017

In June, we completed one year with our first Journey group.

Without a doubt, this has been one of the most exciting things to be a part of since coming to Malawi – not just for Ryan, Eric, Chitani, and me, but for the rest of the group members as well.

C.S. Lewis says, “Aim at heaven, and you get earth thrown in; aim at earth, and you get neither.” This truth has become clear to us as we finished our last meeting, looking ahead to the next year.

It has definitely been Spirit-led because we didn’t originally start the group expecting to be where we are . . . but God did. The more time we spent reflecting and meditating on the heart of God, the more blessings we received. In contrast, the more time spent on physical issues, the less we gained.

Spending time in the Gospel, seeking to know it deeply, and live from it daily, gives a lens through which to look at everything else. We looked back and realized how much time we’ve spent looking at the Father’s Heart, and we can all feel a change in where we are now. For all of us, that has been an incredible revelation!

Imagine actually following Jesus' example of spending time with close workers, in a quiet place, alone with Jesus and God.

Then Jesus said,"Let's go off by ourselves to a quiet place . . ." - Mk. 6:31

One result of what God has done through our Spiritual Journey meetings is to inspire us to start a second journey group made of 9 new individuals and this has already begun. All these guys are from very different backgrounds; different regions in Malawi, different socio-economic backgrounds, and even different tribes.

Our kick-off meeting was blessed, and we are beginning the slow but exciting journey of getting to know one another and of walking together as we seek to know Jesus more. For both of these groups, we ask for your fervent prayers that God will continue to work in our lives and change our hearts.

Blessings, Ben

Spoiler Alert . . . !

We are now in the process of starting a third journey group, this time with our Namikango staff. What could be better? We’re really excited about this. It has been too good for us to not share this rich, spiritual journey with everyone we can.
