Brian Wirthlin (the tall guy) Reflects on Internship at Namikango I

Aug 18, 2017

I had the opportunity to intern with the Namikango Mission foreight weeks this summer, along with four other awesome interns. Together we saw the many ways the Mission is working to advance God’s kingdom. Namikango Mission currently operates five distinct ministries- the Maternity Clinic, Village Savings & Loans (VSL),Community Health Evangelism (CHE), Ntonda Primary School, and the Village Bible Schools. As an engineering student, I was able to help Ryan and Ben with layouts for some new additions to the property. I am looking forward to seeing some of their exciting new projects here soon!

On the weekends, I was able to visit many churches and camp meetings with Ben, Ryan, and Eric. I had the opportunity to speak several times, and the locals were always very hospitable during our visits. If you ever get the chance to visit a Malawian village, you can be sure that you will not leave with an empty stomach. Our intern group also helped run a Saturday Youth Seminar for local secondary school students, and the ladies were able to host several women’s events. As I am finishing my last week here, there are many things I am thankful for. First, for the kindness and hospitality of the Namikango staff. Our team was accepted and cared for from the very first day. Thank you for loving us so well. Second, I am grateful for the times that we shared with the Namikango missionaries and their families. All of the conversations, meals, and laughter have made this a great team to be a part of, and we are blessed to have been surrounded by such a close-knit community. Lastly, I am thankful to see the ways that God is working in Malawi and I am encouraged to see that we all desire to see the good news of Jesus Christ shared with the world.
