Every year, the Southern Africa International Lectureships (SAIL), a large gathering of church members from many different church of Christ congregations, are held somewhere in Southern Africa. This year it was in Malawi. The last time it was held here was in 2005, and the President of Malawi made an appearance.

That didn’t happen at this event, but it was still a great gathering, with over 2,000 participants from Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, Tanzania, South Africa, Nigeria, and several other countries.

Organized largely by the Red Cross Church of Christ from Blantyre in conjunction with other churches in Malawi, the three-day event brought together many churches of Christ throughout Malawi, including representatives from many rural congregations.

The location – the Malawi University of Science and Technology, which is one of the nicest complexes in Malawi – was perfect for the event. The food and accommodations were also very good, and messages were brought from many different speakers. One of the best blessings about the event was the opportunity for so many Christians in Malawi, and throughout Africa, to come together and fellowship. Namikango assisted in helping to spread the word about SAIL to our network of rural churches, encouraging the churches to gather the $20 per person to help send representatives from their church.

Many who had never attended such an event before were able to make it, and it was a special thing to be a part of. People are now encouraged to make the trip to Swaziland for next year’s event.
