The Village Savings & Loan Team Visit Mozambique

Oct 26, 2018

A team of three from Namikango went on a 5-day trip to Mozambique, a distance of 250 miles away. We went at the invitation of Christians who wanted to know more about the Village Savings & Loans (VSL). When people heard about the training sessions to be conducted in three different locations. 365 people attended. They were excited to have a VSL group in their area. The big City Banks will not help the farmers because their needs and their accounts would be too small. But the Village S&L works perfectly for them. At the end of the trainings, the participants learned the importance of saving as individuals and as a group, plus, they saw the Spirit of Christ and brotherly love shown through it all. The participants were trained in group formation, savings, loans, interest, record keeping and much more. By the time we left Mozambique, four groups were formed and two leaders identified to help run the projects. As of now, we have a total of 11 groups formed in Mozambique. There, as it is in Malawi, the Mission has no ownership of the S&Ls and we receive no funds from them. They are totally owned and run by local members.

We are very glad to be able to train groups in Mozambique and feel confident God is working in a powerful way among our Brothers and sisters on that side of the border. Our Lord receives great praise for this helping hand. When a preacher comes to their area to teach, the people are eager to listen.
