A Teaching Trip to Malawi

May 9, 2014

by B. Shelburne

Now that I’m recently retired, I am able to use my Malawi experience and relationships to benefit Namikango Mission. Two years ago I attended the 50th anniversary celebration of Namikango Mission in Malawi. It was a wonderful experience and many of you were able to follow my reports on (reports are still there). Some of you supported that trip financially, for which I am grateful. So as not to burden the regular income of the mission, I try to make special appeals. Since we finished our residence in Malawi I have traveled back five times to teach and encourage.

I wanted to let you know that, God willing, I will be returning to Malawi for a staff training effort involving 10 half-day sessions. We have a fine staff and they are united. As more and more responsibility falls on the shoulders of nationals, it becomes a critically important time for the Mission program. I have felt a strong need for extra training to help these workers transition well.

Topics will include:

Ten key staff members have already been involved in an 8-week reading program on some of the topics. The directors agree about the need for this training. I will again be posting reports at the blog spot location. I plan to leave May 28 and to return June 19. I will much appreciate your prayers.

The cost of this mission trip will include airfare and related travel expense, some reimbursement to mission families for hospitality expense, some funds for benevolence, reimbursement to the mission for cost of teaching handouts, and some award gifts for staff members who faithfully participate. I estimate total cost for the trip at about $5,400. Any contributions that exceed expenses will go into the Namikango operating fund.

Donations can be made to:

If you are able and feel led to participate, I will be thankful for that also. Mark your donation for Staff Training. Donations will be fully tax-deductible. Contact me at if you have questions.

Blessings in Christ,
